Thomas Markle, 73, who reportedly decided to skip the wedding just before the big day, “is suffering from severe heart problems,” a source tells In Touch, adding that he even had a recent heart attack and drove himself to a hospital near his home in Rosarito, Mexico. “He’s due to have surgery,” says the source, adding that the two-time divorcé — who “lives on junk food” like KFC and Mcdonald’s, according to the source — won’t bring up the subject with his daughter. “Thomas adores Meghan and wants to avoid causing any additional stress,” says another insider. But he decided not to walk her down the aisle because, he told TMZ, he felt bad about posing for “stupid and hammy” photos of himself reading up on Great Britain and working out in the weeks leading up to the wedding in exchange for cash. “This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding,” a Kensington Palace rep said in a statement. “She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation.”
