Yes, I’m Having Twin Girls!

After repairing their fractured marriage, Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher have two very special reasons to celebrate

-

Carrie Underwood’s philosophy about having more kids has been a simple one: Leave it to the Lord. She and her husband, former NHL player Mike Fisher, the parents of 3-yearold Isaiah, “are on God’s good timing or whatever you might call it,” she said in 2017. “I’m just trying to figure out where life’s going to take me next.” At the time, she wasn’t even sure Isaiah was ready for a little sister or brother. “If a dog climbs up on my lap,” the country su

perstar added, “I feel like he gets a little jealous.”

He better learn how to share Mom’s attention — and soon! Multiple sources tell In Touch that the “Jesus, Take the Wheel” singer, 35, is expecting twin girls with Mike, 38. “They’ve been trying for a baby for the past few months,” says a source, who adds that Carrie is about three months along. “She and Mike are beyond thrilled that their little family is going from three to five in one big jump.” This joyous time is a welcome about-face for the couple, who hit a particularly rough patch at the end of last year into 2018. After Mike swore

he was done with hockey, he rejoined the Nashville Predators, and his decision was one of the factors that put extreme stress on their seven-year marriage. “There were some dark times for Carrie and Mike, and at one point friends feared they were close to splitting,” says the source. “But they survived, and now they’re expecting twins!”

ONE-TWO PUNCH

Carrie’s strained marriage wasn’t the only thing that turned her world upside down. After suffering a devastating fall at her Nashville home in November that required dozens of stitches on her face, Carrie was afraid she’d be forever deformed. “I didn’t know what it was going to heal like,” she later said (see sidebar at left).

Carrie needed Mike more than ever, but he was focused once again on hockey. Then they took action. “They went to faith-based marriage counseling and dedicated quality time to each other and their son,” says the source. “It brought them back from the breaking point.” And as they focused more on their family, both decided they wanted to make it bigger. “Their rededication to each other made them want to have another child, so they started trying for a baby.”

Mission accomplished — times two! “Carrie is telling people she’s on top of the world again,” says a friend. “The amazing news was that they weren’t just getting one baby, but twins. Carrie’s calling it a miracle, her ‘ bonus baby.’”

The longtime vegetarian, who’s always been super athletic, is making sure to remain as healthy as possible. “She is eating far more than she did the first time around,” says the source, who notes the country singer’s sticking with her favorite foods, including Kashi cereal for breakfast, Daiya vegan cheese for a snack and Subway veggie sandwiches or vegan lasagna made with quinoa for dinner.

She’s not quite ready to announce the good news, but she has been confiding in some pals. “Carrie’s famous friends, like Miranda Lambert, Kellie Pickler, Faith Hill and Brad Paisley, have already started sending gifts,” says the source.

A FRESH START

Future presents will need to be shipped west. The seven-time Grammy winner

(whose new album, Cry Pretty, is due out in September) and Mike have decided to move from Nashville to LA (see sidebar below). “They want a fresh start, but it’s also for Carrie’s career,” says the friend. The star, who appeared in the 2011 movie Soul Surfer and acted in an episode of How I Met Your Mother, “wants to tackle more acting roles, so it makes sense. She needs to be closer to Hollywood. Carrie and Mike really love Nashville, but they have a great network of friends in LA.”

Another benefit of California living: The famous pair can blend in more. “Carrie and Mike had been having difficulties with neighbors letting people into their gated community to gawk, and the problem worsened after the accident,” says the source. “They feel they can be more incognito in LA.”

KIDS’ STUFF

And now that Mike has officially retired again — “I’ve milked this cow as long as it’ll go,” he said in May — he won’t have to worry about leaving Isaiah and the twins to go on the road for a game. “Mike is excited to be a stay-at-home dad,” says the source. “They are at a whole new phase in their lives.”

Though they still have several months before the babies come, Carrie and Mike aren’t wasting any time prepping for their arrival. “Carrie is already designing the girls’ nursery. She loves fairy tales and children’s books, and she’s planning on making the room a little kingdom in pink for her princesses,” says the source. “Carrie is a storyteller at heart and she’ll want the twins to be real readers, so their room will be stocked with classic kids’ books.”

As for names, the devout Christian couple is looking to the Good Book for inspiration. “They’re already talking about biblical baby names for the girls,” says the source. “A front-runner is Rachel. And they also love Faith as a name, so maybe those will be the two winners!”

And while the impending move and the family expansion are likely to lead to stressful times, Carrie has no complaints — she’s simply counting her blessings. “Her life just got exceptionally more complicated, and she couldn’t be happier about it,” says the friend. “This is a completely new chapter for Carrie and Mike. New home, twin girls — she can’t believe it. She’s still pinching herself.” ◼
