Jen’s RISKY New Romance
Jennifer Garner has found CEO — but friends fear she shouldn’t trust him
At first glance, Jennifer Garner’s new boyfriend, John Miller, tal package. seems The to be wealthy the to40-year-old is smart (a Stanford Law School alum), successful (the CEO of restaurant chain Caliburger) and ruggedly handsome to boot. “John has all the qualities Jen’s looking for in a man,” says one source of the guy she’s been dating for about six months. “He’s the ultimate Prince Charming.” But others aren’t so sure. Not only is the businessman still legally wed — to his estranged wife, violinist Caroline Campbell — but the Camping star’s loved ones say John seems like a smooth operator who’s only using Jen, 46, to further his business interests. “He’s an entrepreneur and being attached to one of the most famous actresses in Hollywood is a surefire shot to instant fame,” says an insider. “He’s already being Googled and one of his companies, Caliburger, is being buzzed about, so this is a winwin situation for John — and a risky romance for her.” BACKGROUND CHECK It’s a risk the newly single mom of three is willing to take. But Jen didn’t dive in headfirst with John, whom she
met through mutual friends. Following a rocky, 10-year marriage to Ben Affleck (their divorce was finalized on Oct. 4), Jen made sure John was a stand-up guy. “Jen didn’t go into this romance lightly,” explains the insider. “She grilled him, did her research and some sleuthing.” Even though Jen was careful, friends think she should have taken more time to really get to know John. “I don’t care what anyone says, a few months of dating doesn’t show you who the real person is,” says the insider. Since John’s divorce documents leaked, friends have pointed to troubling allegations (see box). For one, Caroline claimed that John obsessively hustles for his business 24/7 — “he is working wherever he is, often feverishly,” she said — and alleged that he may even have fudged his assets and income in order to lower his support payment obligations. Says the source, “It’s a red flag.” But not, apparently, for the former Mrs. Affleck. “According to Jen, John and his wife are in a good place now. She said they did have their tense moments, but so did she and Ben when they were splitting up,” says the insider. “Jen’s not really concerned with what people have been saying. She trusts him.”
