Aquaman Jason Momoa makes shocking comments that land him in some hot water.

From a love triangle to a shocking rape joke, Aquaman star Jason Momoa’s past comes back to haunt him

The deep gash in his left eyebrow is his signature feature now, but the story behind Jason Momoa’s scar is scary. A decade ago, he got into a verbal altercation at a bar that turned into a brawl when the other man smashed a glass over the 6-foot-5, Hawaiian-born, Iowabred actor’s head, sending Jason, who was then starring on Stargate Atlantis, to the hospital. “Jason had to get 148 stitches and undergo reconstructive surgery,” an insider says of the incident (for which Jason’s assailant went to prison). “He proudly shows off the scar today.”

But there are other things he’s not so proud of. With the release of his blockbuster Aquaman, the onetime Game of Thrones star, 39, has turned into Hollywood’s latest family-friendly action hero, “but he’s got a dark side that few people know about,” the insider says of the Guinness-swilling, heavy-metal-blasting, Harley Davidson-riding bad boy, who likes to practice ax-throwing and rock climbing in his spare time. And now that Jason — who also once had his nose broken by a friend after mentioning that his Conan the Barbarian character would look better that way — is becoming internationally known, says the insider, “his barroom brawls, past comment about rape and speculation about an affair with now-wife Lisa Bonet are coming back to haunt him.”

The actor was reportedly still engaged to his Baywatch Hawaii co-star, Australian actress Simmone Jade Mackinnon, 45, when he met Lisa, 51, at a jazz club roughly 13 years ago. “There were whispers that the romances overlapped,” says the insider. When Simmone learned that Lisa was heavily pregnant with Jason’s baby just six months after their engagement abruptly ended, she told an Australian paper, “It’s a shock, and of course this news has been upsetting.” Jason had been obsessed with the Cosby Show star since he was 8 and joked that he was “a full-fledged stalker.” It doesn’t help that Lisa — with whom he has kids Lola, 11, and Nakoa-wolf, 10 — has confessed, “We have been together from the day that we met.”

Last year, footage of him making light of sexual assault was dug up. Explaining why he loved sci-fi, he’d quipped in a 2011 Comic-con panel, “There are so many things you can do, like... rape beautiful women.” After being called out, Jason made clear he regretted his “distasteful joke,” but, says the insider, “if he did that today, in this climate, his career would be shot.”

Jason’s the first to admit he’s not perfect. He even admitted to lying about being cast as Aquaman when he landed the role. “I get in trouble just like any other dumb f---ing male,” he recently said, lamenting how his wife — whom he calls “that poor woman” — met him when he was 26 and “a maniac.” The triangles tattooed on his left arm are meant to represent teeth from a shark, his Hawaiian family’s guardian spirit. “It’s supposed to take the darkness out of your heart and bring the light in,” he explained of the ink in 2013, “but we’re still working on that.”
