The singer finally reveals the real reason her marriage to Liam failed Hemsworth
In December 2018, Miley Cyrus married her love of nearly a decade, Liam Hemsworth, at her Tennessee home. Just seven months later, though, they announced their split, and last January, their divorce was finalized. Yet on Dec. 2, Miley is still talking about what went wrong with the dashing Australian actor she fell for as a teenager. “There was too much conflict,” she says in a new candid interview. “When I come home, I want to be anchored by someone. I don’t get off on drama or fighting.”
The dig wasn’t exactly subtle. “She’s insinuating he created conflict and wasn’t anchoring her, that all he brought to the marriage was drama and fighting,” says a source. “But remember, there are three sides to the story — his, hers and the truth.” Miley, 28, is trashing Liam, 30, says the source, because “she’s still hurt, obviously. She’s lashing out at him.”
STILL HEALING
For a long time, Liam was her everything. “He’s her first love,” says the source, and that love imploded publicly. “You just don’t get over that overnight.” According to the source, “Liam must be livid” about her comments that cryptically paint him as the bad guy. But Liam has moved on — he’s been dating fellow Aussie Gabriella Brooks, a 22-year-old model — for a year now, and tries to take the high road. “He knows that Miley says whatever she wants. He has no control over that, especially now.” Miley couches her dig at Liam with some bittersweet sentiments, too. She says she didn’t know if they “really ever thought we were actually going to get married.” But they committed a few months after she “lost everything” when their Malibu home burned to the ground in a 2018 Southern California wildfire. “I just clung to what I had left of that house, which was me and him,” she says, adding, “I really do and did love him very, very, very much, and still do, always will.” Liam is tired of looking back. “He has plenty to say, too, but he keeps his mouth shut,” says the source, explaining that the actor has no desire to stoke the drama. Still, part of him is “always worried about what Miley might say next. I wouldn’t be surprised if she wrote a memoir and spilled even more in the not too distant future,” adds the source. “Nothing would surprise him anymore.” ◼
