Rialto nonprofit is focused on helping the community

- From staff reports

Darious Harris, a professional boxer and founder of Rialto-based nonprofit Never Stop Grinding Impact wants to give back to the city in which he’s from. His hope is to inspire others to do the same.

Never Stop Grinding Impact, along with Healing California and the Rialto Police Department, recently offered 50 Rialto residents free vision and dental work.

The free event in late February commenced through an application approval process facilitated by Never Stop Grinding Impact to find those most in need of teeth fillings, obstructions, vision exams, and prescription eyeglasses.

The organization received more than 100 applications, however spaces were limited due to COVID-19 safety restrictions, which is why Harris recognizes there is an enormous need for another event.

One of Harris’s goals is to strengthen the relationship between the community and law enforcement.

“I want to work as a community builder and showcase that unity is key,” Harris said in a news release. “It’s important to change the narrative in our community that all police are bad, they’re not, I’m proof that a young African American man can partner with the police department for the greater good of the community.”

Harris said it’s critical that these services are provided.

“For one, teeth are very important, it’s the first thing you see when you speak to a person,” he said, “and when a person doesn’t take care of their teeth, they can develop gum disease and so many other serious diseases.”
