A parolee suspected of shooting and critically wounding a woman at an Azusa hotel parking lot has been arrested and charged, police confirmed Wednesday.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday charged 45-yearold David Mesa with attempted murder and domestic violence, court records show. His arraignment was continued to May 25 at Pomona Superior Court.

Police didn’t say what kind of relationship existed between the suspect and the victim. The woman remains in critical condition, according to Azusa police Detective Jon Rush.

He said the shooting occurred in the parking lot of Home2 Suites at 229 S. Azusa Ave. around 6:45 p.m. on April 13. The suspect met the victim there, he said.

“There was some sort of confrontation with the (woman) in the parking lot,” Rush said, adding the suspect fired one round and hit the victim in the neck.

The suspect was in a car at the time. Detectives tracked down the suspect to Rialto on April 16 and arrested him, Rush said. Investigators didn’t find the gun used in the shooting.

He said police aren’t looking for other suspects.

Mesa is currently on parole for burglary, Rush said. Court records show he also has a current case against him for violating parole.

Mesa is being held without bail at Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles.
