ARTHUR GILBERT COVARRUBIA­S SR.

Age 79, of Upland, CA, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. He was born on January 15, 1942, in Arcadia, CA. Arthur married the love of his life Criselda Aguila in Mexico City on September 12, 1970, the same year he graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with BA and BS degrees in History and Social Sciences. Arthur proudly worked at Cal Poly Pomona for 49 years, as Head of Admissions and Tutorial Services Specialist in the Student Support and Equity Program (EOP). He was awarded Emeritus Status at his retirement ceremony in November 2019.

Arthur was well traveled, as he participat­ed in assignment­s, while a student in college, as far as Europe, the Middle East, and Mexico. In 1967, he was one of 13 American students who spent three months in Europe representi­ng the U.S. in the government-financed “Good Neighbors Abroad” program. The following year he traveled to Turkey, Israel, Lebanon, Greece, and Jordan under the study-abroad program at Cal State Fullerton.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 50 years, Criselda; his sons, Arthur Jr. and Erik; his daughters-in-law Buffy and Dara, and his two adorable granddaugh­ters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Blas and Luz, his sisters Domelina and Katie, and his brothers Manual, Raymond, Blas, and David.

A memorial service will be held at Todd Memorial Chapel in Claremont, CA on Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. As well, a Catholic mass will be held on Friday, June 18th at 10:00 am at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Upland, California.
