Non-closure inspections of note About this list
Here are selected inspections at facilities that weren’t closed but had other significant issues. New China Express, at 1211N. Waterman Ave. in San Bernardino, was inspected Sept.7in response to a foodborne illness complaint from someone who said they got very sick two days after eating a shrimp plate. The inspector found several violations: The manager said shrimp is cooked to 135degrees, not 145as required by health code. Some raw shrimp, chicken and beef were at unsafe temperatures in a refrigerator that wasn’t keeping cold. A cooked dish containing shrimp wasn’t being kept hot enough. And an employee didn’t wash hands after handling money. The restaurant was not issued a grade; its most recent score was an 81/B in May — its fourth B or C grade since 2019. The inspector returned Sept. 8to confirm that the refrigerator and hot holding table were keeping food at safe temperatures.
Charley’s Burger, at 16867Arrow Blvd. in Fontana, was inspected Sept. 8and received a grade of 78/C with two critical violations.
Inspectors visit food facilities for routine inspections, followups and complaint investigations. In graded inspections, the facility starts with a score of 100and can lose between 1 and 4 points for any of about 50 health code violations. A grade of 90or above is an A, 80-89 is a B and 79 or below is a C. Riverside County considers B and C grades to be failing; San Bernardino County does not have a pass/fail system. A facility will be closed if the inspector finds an imminent health hazard that can’t immediately be corrected.
