Senior nutrition programs offer boxed meals
Senior centers in many communities normally offer hot lunches five days a week. Because of the coronavirus pandemic and resulting restrictions, centers suspended sit-down lunches in mid-March 2020 but are offering meals seniors may take home.
Following are the hours and days when centers whose menus were printed on this page before the pandemic are offering meals for pickup.
Family Service Association, which normally provides hot meals at various centers, now distributes weekly meal packages of five frozen meals, plus milk, bread and fruit, on Wednesdays at centers including the following: 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Ontario, 225 B St., 909-395-2021; 1011:30 a.m., Rancho Cucamonga, 11200 Base Line Road, 909-477-2780; 10 a.m.-noon, Upland, 250 N. Third Ave., 909-981-4501. Distribution from Rialto’s Grace Vargas Senior Center, 1411 S. Riverside Ave. (909-877-9706), has been moved to the Rialto Fitness and Aquatic Center, 1243 S. Riverside Ave. Hours are 10-11 a.m.
These meals are only for those who already participate in the senior lunch program and are 60 or older, and supply is limited. Others who need meals may contact Family Service Association at 951342-3057.
Intervale Senior Services distributes seven packaged meals to participants in the senior lunch program 10:30 a.m.-noon Wednesdays at the San Dimas Senior Citizen and Community Center, 201 E. Bonita Ave., San Dimas. Participants pick up their lunches curbside outside doors of the lunch room.
The program is at capacity, but anyone in need may call 626-960-2995.
In Claremont, lunches are normally served at the Joslyn Senior Center, 660 N. Mountain Ave., and at Blaisdell Park, 440 S. College Ave. Boxed lunches are available for Los Angeles County residents 60 and older beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesdays in front of the Joslyn Center. Information: 909-399-5488
In Pomona, where packaged lunches had been distributed at Washington Park and Palomares Park senior centers, home-delivered meals are now offered. For information, call 909-620-2324.
The city of Montclair Senior Nutrition Program distributes boxed lunches 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. weekdays at 5111 Benito St., Montclair. Suggested donation is $3. There are new menus every month that can be picked up at the drive-through meal distributions. Information: 909625-9483.
