Joan Felton passed away at home in Claremont, CA on October 22, 2021 at the age of 87 surrounded by family. Joan married the love of her life John M. Felton in Illinois in November 1951, when he was serving in the army. Joan studied office management at a local college and worked at Westclox.

Joan was a secretary at Great Central Insurance in Peoria, Illinois after her husband returned from service to attend Bradley University. Their son John was born and she became a stay at home mother. Before her husband John graduated from Bradley he accepted a position with Security Pacific Bank and the family moved to Burbank, California. Daughter Kathy was born shortly thereafter and the growing family moved to Canoga Park, California, where Joan took art classes with friends and began painting beautiful works of art with oils. The family then moved to Woodland Hills, finally settling in Claremont three years later in 1974. Joan was a loving homemaker, artist and mother.

With children off to college, Joan and John began to travel to Europe and October trips to New England. For years Joan and John, members at Red Hill Country Club, enjoyed weekly dinners and holiday parties with golf friends.

Loving grandmother “Mimi” devoted much of her time over the years to being with her grandchildren. A favorite vacation spot for Joan and John (“Papa”) over the years was La Jolla, where Joan would play baseball, throw frisbees and walk along the shore with her growing grandchildren. She later became very tech savy to keep in touch daily with grandchildren into adulthood and to support their education, hobbies and jobs.

Joan is survived by her husband John, her son John D. Felton (Sue Stewart Felton), daughter Kathy Felton Zetterberg (Charles L. Zetterberg), grandchildren Lauren Felton, Charles F. Zetterberg (Audrey), Nicole Felton, Andrew L. Zetterberg, John S. Felton and Stephen D. Zetterberg, and sister Ginny Pisanesche of Addison, Illinois. She was predeceased by parents Frank and Helen Cass and sister Margery Ellis.

A private memorial mass was held at Our Lady of Assumption Church on November 12, 2021, followed by a burial at Oak Park Cemetery in Claremont.
