-

On Saturday, April 9th, 2022, after 85 years of a life well-lived full of laughter, wit, family, commitment, integrity, and resilience, Thomas G. Tiernan, Jr., a 46year resident of Redlands, CA, passed away at home, surrounded by the deep love of his family. A native of San Diego, Tom earned his degree from the University of San Diego, where he met the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Joanne. He later earned his Master’s in Finance from the University of Washington and spent his professional career in the banking and trust services industry. A proud father of five, he dedicated all his free time to his family, coaching soccer, playing catch with his kids, joking with friends and neighbors, and going on adventures around the world with Joanne. His dedication to serving his community was shown through his membership on the boards of the Redlands Community Hospital Foundation and the Inland Regional Center, and the thousands of hours he spent in his retired years volunteering for the Redlands Volunteer Citizens Patrol. Family and friends alike will tell you – Tom always had that sparkle in his eye, a quick joke to disarm you, and a personality that drew you in and made you feel like family.

Tom is survived by his wife Joanne, sons Tom (spouse Yuko), Pat (spouse Kiim), and Michael (spouse Tracy) Tiernan, daughter Mary Franchini (spouse Dennis), daughter-in-law Lisa Tiernan, as well as his two sisters, Mary Jane Tiernan and Patricia Slaven, along with 10 amazing grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Heather, Nichole, Matthew, Michael, Shizuka, Thomas, Kaitlin, Jack, Elizabeth, and Jacob. Tom is predeceased by his dear son, Joe Tiernan, and his parents Tom Sr. and Elzire Tiernan, all four of whom are currently playing poker and hooting it up together in Heaven.

A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Parish at 115 W. Olive Street in Redlands on Wednesday, April 27th at 11:00 am, immediately followed by a reception luncheon for friends and family at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in Tom’s name to the Redlands Police Community Foundation at www.rpcf365.org.
