Upland receives No. 1 seed for Division 3 playoffs
Upland received the No. 1 seed in the Division 3 bracket as the CIF Southern Section released its boys volleyball playoff pairings Monday morning.
The Highlanders (34-3), the Baseline League champions, will open the postseason at home Thursday night against El Segundo (8-10) or Lakewood (7-13).
Upland was the lone Inland team to receive a topfour seeding this season.
The Division 3 playoff bracket also features a pair of intriguing local showdowns in the opening round, as River Valley League champion Hillcrest (24-4) plays host to Southwestern League co-champ Vista Murrieta (10-4) and Citrus Belt League tri-champion Redlands (18-6) plays host to Santiago (17-7).
King captured the Division 5 championship last season but will compete in the Division 2 playoffs this year. The Wolves (25-2), champions of the Big VIII League, play host to Santa Margarita (13-8) in a firstround match Thursday night. The playoffs begin today with wild-card matches. (Matches at 6 p.m.
