Betty Taylor Sherfey, 88, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at her home on May 3, 2022. Betty was born Betty Taylor January 7, 1934, in Raeford, NC to the late Steven and Sallie Taylor. Betty was the youngest of 6 children and was the last surviving sibling. Betty grew up in Raeford, NC where she graduated from Hoke County High School and then attended business school in Fayetteville, NC. Shortly thereafter she met her future husband Marvin who was stationed at Fort Bragg. They married on January 23, 1955, in a small ceremony in front of the local preacher’s house. They moved back to Kansas City, KS, where Marvin had gone to high school, to start their life together. In the fall of 1955 they moved to Lawrence, KS so Marvin could attend the University of Kansas. In 1958 they moved to Milwaukee, WI where she and Marvin both worked for Allis Chalmers Co. During her employment she learned the sport of golf on the Allis Chalmers’ golf course and it allowed her to enjoy her weekend golf tournaments. In 1961, a new career opportunity at General Dynamics presented itself to Marvin and they relocated to Pomona, CA. In 1963, they started their family with the birth of their first son Mark, follow by their second son Gary in 1965. Over the years, Betty found her calling in volunteering at the Pomona Valley Community Hospital, at her children’s schools, later becoming PTA President, team mom for both baseball and soccer, and active in the Cub & Boy Scouts as Den Mother and Troop Mom. As the boys grew-up, she joined and put her energy and efforts into the Assistance League of Pomona Valley to help those in need, seniors, and youth for over 40 years. She was always there to lend a helping hand to those who needed it most. In addition, she found the time to own and operate 2 businesses for 3 decades while making new friends along the way. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years Marvin, her sons Mark and daughter-in-law Ann, Gary and daughter-inlaw Colleen, and her 5 grandchildren, Skylar, Aidan, Lauren, Taylor and Hunter.
