Program offers summer music classes for children
The Riverside Arts Academy will offer a variety of classes, including an introduction to songwriting and recording, in its summer music program for Riverside youth ages 7 to 17.
The program runs from July 5 to 29 at the Cesar Chavez Community Center, 2060 University Ave., Riverside.
Riverside Arts Academy offers several summer classes for students who have not participated in the program before, according to a news release.
One of those is the Music Discovery Class, an introductory class for ages 7 to 12 that runs July 18-28. New students ages 12 to 17 may also sign up for the introduction to songwriting and recording class, running July 6-29. Also open to new students is the choir class for ages 8 to 17, running from July 5 to 29.
“The Music Discovery Class is for beginning students interested in learning music but still undecided about which instruments they want to play,” Nové Deypalan, Riverside Arts Academy’s music and program director, said in the news release. “This extensive class will give them the opportunity to try all the instruments in the orchestra, strings, woodwind, brass and percussion, plus a bonus of learning the fundamentals of music.
“The intro to songwriting and recording is for older kids who have an inquisitive mind in creating and writing music. They will explore different techniques in music composition,” Deypalan said.
Returning students may enroll in the summer program to continue their music instruction the program’s band, strings, choir, percussion and mariachi classes and the Riverside Youth Orchestra.
These classes run July 5-29.
Riverside residents may qualify for free tuition, based on proof of residence and income verification. Cost for those who do not qualify for free tuition is $70 for one student and $50 for additional students from the same family.
