Re “Trump foe Cheney loses Wyoming race” (Aug. 17):

Seeking a third term in Congress, Liz Cheney lost to a candidate whom former President Trump endorsed. Cheney is from one of the most prominent Republican families in the U.S. All she had to do to win was to support the conspiracy theories involving a stolen election and get Trump’s endorsement. But the fact is, she is a person of integrity. She said in her concession speech that she loves her state and the Republican Party but she chose country over party.

She is a person of integrity willing to lose her place in Congress in favor of truth and protecting our Democratic government. This reminded me of a quote in Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice”: “How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world.”

Our great country sends trillions of dollars overseas to support our world neighbors, as we should as a leader in the Democratic world, but we need to also look within. A mere sliver of this aid would support this sacred memorial for its entirety. Do the right thing. What closes next? The Pearl Harbor Museum? Stand up, America. is the category of different addresses. Does this mean people who had one registered address when they signed up then moved and registered at a new address? Why didn’t the county send verifications to these people at the new address? Second is the category of mismatched signatures. A person who registered in 1973, for example, may have a different signature now. Why didn’t the county send verifications to these people? There needs to be an investigation of the whole petition verification process which is obviously politically motivated.
