Mcdonald leading for Claremont school board
Doctor is ahead of two competitors in early returns in special election for 4th District
A physician is leading the three-way race for a vacant seat on the Claremont Unified school board, according to unofficial election results released Friday.
Dr. Alex Mcdonald is up against two others, Aaron Peterson and Joshua Rogers, for the 4th District seat.
After votes were cast Tuesday,
Mcdonald was leading Friday with 1,353 votes, or 68% of the ballots tallied so far, according to early unofficial results released by the Los Angeles County registrar.
Peterson was in second place with 604 votes, or 30% of the ballots counted.
Rogers followed with 31, or 1.5%, of the votes counted.
The special election Tuesday was put into motion after the forced resignation of previous school board member Steven
Llanusa and a petition circulated calling for the removal of a board-approved appointee soon after.
Parents within the district petitioned for a special election for the vacated seat due to concerns over a lack of transparency in the original appointment process.
Mcdonald is a family medicine and sports medicine doctor with Kaiser Permanente in Fontana who has previous experience serving on the state Medical Board and the executive committee of the Academy of Family Physicians. He pledged to focus on providing an open environment where all voices are heard.
Peterson, an Army veteran and technical service engineer for Lockheed Martin, said he wants to bridge a gap of disconnect that has been created between the board and parents.
Rogers has previous management consulting experience and voiced that his goal is to improve transparency with school board communications and operations.
Election results are expected to be updated Tuesday, according to the registrar.
