Trader Joe's recalls 2 items over rocks, insects

-

Trader Joe’s recalls are starting to read much like a twisted version of the fable Stone Soup.

The Monrovia-based grocery chain in the last two days issued two new recalls for food that might have nonfood items in them.

On Friday, the company said its fully cooked falafel (with the SKU number 93935) may contain rocks. Notably, the falafel was sold in 35 states and Washington, D.C., but apparently not in California.

Sound familiar? Just four days ago, the chain said two types of cookies also might have rocks, recalling both items. The cookies include Trader Joe’s Almond Windmill Cookies (SKU# 98744) and Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Chunk and Almond Cookies (SKU# 82752).

Trader Joe’s said its supplier alerted them to the rocks in the treats and the falafel.

The company also has pulled its Unexpected Broccoli Cheddar Soup because it might have insects in the mix.

The type of insect in the soup was not mentioned by Trader Joe’s. Customers who bought the soup should look for (SKU# 68470) and “use by” dates of 07/18/23 — 09/15/23.

“No known adverse health effects have been reported to date, and all potentially affected product has been removed from sale and destroyed,” the company said.

The online sale, to start Wednesday through Adidas smartphone apps and its website, follows an earlier set of sales in May. Models that will be available include the Yeezy Boost 350 V2, 500, and 700 as well as the Yeezy Slide and Foam RNR.

The company cut ties with Ye in October after he made antisemitic and other offensive remarks online and in interviews. That left Adidas holding $1.3 billion worth of unsold Yeezys and searching for a responsible way to dispose of them.

Adidas CEO Bjørn Gulden said in May that selling the popular sneakers and donating some of the profits was the best solution to deal with the unsold inventory and make a difference. He said the company spoke with nongovernmental organizations and groups that were harmed by Ye’s comments and actions.
