Hitless through 10, Yankees win in 13th

Milwaukee rookie Sal Frelick preserved a no-hit bid with a leaping catch in the 10th inning that kept the game scoreless, then the New York Yankees rallied to beat the visiting Brewers 4-3 on Sunday when Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run homer in the 12th and Kyle Higashioka hit a winning double in the 13th.

Corbin Burnes pitched eight hitless innings and Devin Williams worked a 1-2-3 ninth. With two on in the 10th against Abner Uribe, one the automatic runner and the other on a walk, Anthony Volpe hit a drive to right and Frelick leaped against the wall, knocking out the lights on the video board, and caught the ball as he elbowed center fielder Joey Wiemer in the mouth.

Tyrone Taylor hit a runscoring single in the top of the 11th off Nick Ramirez and with NL Central-leading Milwaukee bidding for the first 11-inning no-hitter in major league history, Oswaldo Cabrera hit a tying RBI double with one out off Joel Payamps.

Wiemer had an RBI double and Andrew Monasterio a sacrifice fly off Ramirez in the 12th, but Stanton homered off Andrew Chafin in the bottom half and Higashioka doubled in the 13th off Hoby Milner (2-1) to score automatic runner Everson Pereira.

New York won despite being held to three hits for the 13th time this season.

Burnes struck out seven and walked two in eight innings. He retired his first 12 hitters before walking Stanton on his 54th pitch.

Gerrit Cole allowed three hits in seven innings, lowering his Al-leading ERA to 2.79, He struck out nine and walked none.

Atlanta became the first team to clinch a playoff berth this season, rallying to beat visiting Pittsburgh as Matt Olson went 2 for 3 with three RBIS.

The Braves (93-49) reached the postseason for the sixth straight year, the second-longest streak in franchise history. They won 11 straight NL East titles from 1995-2005.

Bryan De La Cruz hit a tiebreakin­g homer in the eighth inning and Miami, held hitless until the seventh, rallied for a win at Philadelph­ia.

Dane Myers broke up a no-hit bid by Phillies starter Ranger Suárez with a oneout double in the seventh. Yuli Gurriel drove in two runs for the Marlins, who have won eight of 10 after taking two of three games from Philadelph­ia.

Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber (his 43rd) homered for the Phillies.

Kyle Tucker hit a pair of RBI triples in an eight-run sixth inning, Jose Altuve homered and drove in three runs, and AL West-leading Houston routed visiting San Diego.

Houston has won five of six and opened a 21/2-game AL West lead over Seattle. The defending champion Astros are a season-high 20 games over .500 at 82-62.

Tucker became the first Houston player to triple twice in an inning, getting hits off Tim Hill and Rich Hill.

Christophe­r Morel, Cody Bellinger and Dansby Swanson each hit solo homers in the third inning, and Chicago snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating Arizona at Wrigley Field.

Kyle Hendricks tossed 5 2/3 effective innings to help the Cubs (77-67) strengthen their hold on the second NL wild-card spot.

The Diamondbac­ks’ four-game winning streak ended, but they remained in the third wild-card spot.

Zach Eflin tied for the American League lead with his 14th win, and host Tampa Bay beat Seattle to take three of four in a series between playoff contenders.

The Rays opened an 81/2game lead over the Mariners for the top AL wild card.

Eflin (14-8) lasted five innings, allowing three runs and seven hits.

Marcus Semien homered twice among his four hits and Corey Seager went deep for the 30th time this season for host Texas.
