Multi-media Mini Show features art in small sizes

Redlands Art Associatio­n recently announced winners in its 55th annual Multi-media Mini Show, which is on exhibit through Thursday at the Redlands Art Associatio­n Gallery.

The show is limited to artworks that are no larger than 14.5 inches on any side, including base or frame, but artists may enter work in any medium, including paintings, photograph­y, fiber art, glass and sculptures in wood, stone and metal.

The Multi-media Mini Show is open to all Southern California artists and Redlands Art Associatio­n members.

Juror for this year’s show was Edward Gomez, a professor of art at Cal State San Bernardino. He chose 185 pieces of those entered for the show, and chose winners of more than $1,400 in cash awards, according to a news release.

Gomez received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University in 1999 and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the Otis College of Art and Design in 2003.

He has exhibited his work nationally and internatio­nally, and his art includes abstract and representa­tional painting, printmakin­g, graphic design video and three-dimensiona­l work.

In the Multi-media Mini Show, first place went to Marie Hammond of Hesperia for her pen on wood “Dusk.” Second place went to Rudolph Vessup of Beaumont for his acrylic painting “Mini Citrus Escape,” and third went to Kathy Paulus of Moreno Valley for her scratchboa­rd painting “Chickadee.”

Juror’s Choice awards went to Teri Franklin and Nancy Wade and Excellence Awards to Cyndi Malsed and Megan Warren.

Pat Meeker won the Doris Cook Memorial Award, Geeta Pattanaik won the Gail Brownfield Memorial Award, and Won Madeline Koh won the Joan Wiley Memorial Award.

Robin Mount-straub won the Watercolor West Internatio­nal Transparen­t Society’s Best of Watercolor­s award, and Chuck Mccracken won the Redlands Art Associatio­n Past President’s Award.

Honorable mentions went to Princeton Bernal, Rick Christie, Joan Marie Smith and Steve Sommer, and Blick Art Materials gift certificat­es went to Julianne Apariciocu­rtis, Jeff Moulds and Joan Marie Smith.

Purchase award patrons, buyers who pledged to purchase art in the show, had a viewing time before the show opened. The patrons were Kris Bussard, Shirley Harry, Sandy Davies and Martha Cowan, and they purchased art by Terri Franklin, Julie Jenkins, Jeanne Dolan and Debra Wick.

The Redlands Art Associatio­n Gallery is at 215 E. State St. The Multi-media Mini Show may be viewed during gallery hours, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
