Riverside Mission Belles will perform at California Women's Chorus event
Members of the Riverside Mission Belles women’s chorus will join voices from across the state for the California Women’s Chorus’s 52nd annual Convention and Concert, to be held Saturday-sunday at the Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles in Monterey Park.
The convention will culminate in a benefit concert, “Celebrate Broadway!,” 2 p.m. Sunday, showcasing the members of the California Women’s Chorus and featuring performances by this year’s winners of the California Women’s Chorus vocal music scholarships.
The California Women’s Chorus is a nonprofit organization devoted to the encouragement of choral singing among women throughout California. Its philanthropic purpose is to raise funds for vocal scholarships that are presented at its annual convention.
The Riverside Mission Belles women’s chorus began as the PTA Mothersingers in the 1930s. Decades later, the group was renamed the PTA Choristers and later still, they became the Riverside Mission Belles.
The group was also instrumental creating the California Women’s Chorus in the early 1970s, according to a news release.
