My Fendi Monster bag, by Candice Bergen

I like to wear things with creatures on them. My favorite earrings are a pair of dinosaurs. My favorite shoes are velvet slippers with sequined and feathered heads that look like voodoo priestesses. So when my daughter gave me this Fendi Monster bag two years ago for my 70th birthday, it became my buddy. I think the monster is brilliantly conceived— simply designed yet fully realized, and the eyes are perfect. It’s fierce and funny. I use it almost every day because I haven’t seen a bag that is equal. I also divide people by the way they respond to it. It’s sort of like if you’re a dog person or not a dog person. I recently took the Monster with me to Normandy. The French didn’t quite know what to make of it, which is part of the immense pleasure this bag brings. It is truly the gift that keeps on giving. Bergen stars in CBS’S reboot of Murphy Brown, premiering September 27.
