Artist Statement
The subjects for my abstract paintings and drawings are often inspired by the books I read. I created Cannibals on Parade while reading about Michael Rockefeller’s fatal 1961 visit to New Guinea to collect primitive art. At that time, cannibalization and head-hunting were still being practiced in parts of New Guinea; much more recently, they were translated by my imagination from pencil to paper.
