The Inyo County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously selected John Carl Vallejo to be the next county attorney, replacing Marshall Rudolph who is retiring at the end of the month.

Vallejo is currently the county’s assistant county counsel working under Rudolph.

Rudolph, who made the announcement after the board’s closed session regarding the position, said Vallejo was selected after a competitive, thorough search with a professional recruitment firm.

“He’s a very talented, skilled attorney who I’ve worked with for over 10 years now,” Rudolph said of Vallejo.

Vallejo is familiar with all aspects of running the county attorney’s office, he said.

“He’s very knowledgeable on all Inyo topics, including those related to the city of Los Angeles,” Marshall said. “He will absolutely hit the ground running and it will be a very nice smooth transition and continuation of the county counsel department services.”

Rudolph said a finalized contract and terms and conditions for Vallejo’s employment would be coming before the board of supervisors for approval at the board’s meeting next week.
