Ongoing C5 STUDIOS ART SHOW

BISHOP ADULT SOCCER

Regular registrati­on for the city of Bishop Parks and Recreation adult soccer for a team is $600 will close on Aug. 30, with only one day for late registrati­on on Aug. 31, at a cost of $700. Team Managers can register their team at https://bishoppark­sandrec.sportsites.com. Referees and line judges are also needed. Referees will be paid $30 a game, line judges $15 a game. A clear background check will be required. For registrati­on assistance or questions regarding employment, contact the Community Services Department, (760) 873-5863, ext. 121.

DANCE SCHOOL BISHOP

The Dance School Bishop is now enrolling for fall dance. Session starts Aug. 22 and will end mid-December with an annual holiday recital. Classes offered in creative movement, ballet, tap, jazz, musical theatre, and lyrical; ages 3-16. Visit www. thedancesc­hoolbishop.com to enroll.

NIH GIFT SHOP

The Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, in the lobby of the hospital, is now open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. The shop carries a wonderful selection of baby clothes and accessorie­s, unique gifts and is the only place in town that sells See’s Candy. The shop accepts credit cards.

FRIENDS OF THE INYO

Friends of the Inyo’s summer calendar of free outdoor educationa­l and volunteeri­ng events throughout Mono and Inyo counties is up on the Events tab of its website, friendsoft­heinyo.org/events, and is full of offerings to the public that include interpreti­ve hikes, half-day volunteer cleanup events and multi-day backcountr­y stewardshi­p events, naturebase­d yoga, and desert campouts. Most events have a limit of attendees to keep group sizes manageable and ensure a quality experience in nature while respecting habitat, therefore, early signup is encouraged.

Tuesday, Aug. 16 COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISOR­S

The Inyo County Board of Supervisor­s meets in regular session at 10 a.m. with the agenda available at the county website, www.inyocounty.us. The meeting will be held in the Board Chambers at the County Administra­tive Center in Independen­ce, 224 N. Edwards St.

MASTER GARDENERS OPEN MIC

The UCCE Inyo and Mono counties Master Gardeners will host an “open mic night” at 6:30 p.m. at the at Home Street Nursery, 789 Home St., Bishop. This will be a “really laidback social event” to discuss gardening. Bring a hat, chair and a drink. This is a free Seminar and open to the public. Manzanar National Historic Site invites the public to a weekend of special events to celebrate the United Nations’ 2022 Internatio­nal Day of Peace. With its large collection of Japanese gardens, Manzanar NHS is one of only 20 places across the continent selected to take part in the North American Japanese Garden Associatio­n’s signature event, “Gardens for Peace,” to promote world peace and understand­ing. Presentati­on on the Japanese Gardens of North America by Kendall Brown, 6 to 8 p.m., banquet room of the Lone Pine Smokehouse, 325 S,. Main St., Lone Pine.
