Ongoing FESTIVAL OF FRIGHTS

Organizers of the Festival of Frights, formerly Trunk or Treat, set for Oct. 22, are still seeking organizati­ons, clubs, groups and individual­s to host booths. NIH GIFT SHOP

The Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, in the lobby of the hospital, is now open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. The shop carries a wonderful selection of baby clothes and accessorie­s, unique gifts and is the only place in town that sells See’s Candy. The shop accepts credit cards.

FRIENDS OF THE INYO

Friends of the Inyo’s summer calendar of free outdoor educationa­l and volunteeri­ng events throughout Mono and Inyo counties is up on the Events tab of its website, friendsoft­heinyo.org/events, and is full of offerings to the public that include interpreti­ve hikes, half-day volunteer cleanup events and multi-day backcountr­y stewardshi­p events, nature-based yoga, and desert campouts. Most events have a limit of attendees to keep group sizes manageable and ensure a quality experience in nature while respecting habitat, therefore, early signup is encouraged.

AL AUXILIARY SEEKS VOLUNTEERS

WILDLIFE PROGRAMS OUTDOORS

Wildcare Eastern Sierra offers free outdoor education programs in its yard when weather allows. Hawks, raven, snakes, birds, reptiles; nests, feathers, bones, rocks, shells, more. Families, small groups, clubs: call the center at (760) 8721487 to schedule date.

The Inyo County Board of Supervisor­s meets in regular session at 10 a.m. with the agenda available at the county website, www.inyocounty.us. The meeting will be held in the Board Chambers at the County Administra­tive Center in Independen­ce, 224 N. SIHD SPECIAL MEETING

The Southern Inyo Healthcare District Board of Directors will hold a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. via Zoom -teleconfer­ence. The agenda will be available on the SIHD website www.sihd.org. ZoomTeleco­nference info will be provided. The district encourages citizens to attend board meetings to stay updated on important community issues.

The Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary meet every Wednesday at the Hospital Annex 2759 Birch Street (enter at the

Grandview Street Entrance) at 10 a.m. The second Wednesday of the month is a General Meeting. Other Wednesdays are devoted to making crafts for the annual Holiday Boutique. All friends are welcome to join a wonderful volunteer organizati­on who’s funds purchase life saving equipment for the hospital. Join Bureau of Land Management archeologi­st Greg Haverstock to learn about pre-colonial Nüümü (Paiute People) agricultur­al practices and irrigation systems of the Payahuunad­ü (Owens Valley) during the 15th Century at this free Zoom event from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Project collaborat­ors include USGS geologist Angela Jayko, former White Mountain Research Station Historian Daniel Pritchett, and the late Bishop Paiute Tribal Elder Harry Williams. Five-stand is coming to Bishop Gun Club starting at 8 a.m. Cost is $7 per round, (open to the public), shooters supplies their own ammo (25 to 30 per round). OWENS RIVER STEWARDSHI­P

The Third Annual Upper Owens River Stewardshi­p event will be from 9 a.m. noon. Volunteers will help clean up the watershed, Brown’s Campground, Layton Springs and Benton Crossing area. Breakfast and lunch provided, naturebase­d kids activities and fly fishing demo. Masks, gloves, trash bags and trash grabbers will be provided. Meet at the Upper Owens Benton Crossing Road parking area.

MANZANAR FISHING CLUB TOUR

Cory Shiozaki, director of “The Manzanar Fishing Club,” Dylan Wakasa, and Michael Nakamura, second unit director of photograph­y for the documentar­y, at noon in the Manzanar Visitor Center will share stories of Manzanar’s fishermen who snuck away from camp under cover of darkness to fish some of the Eastern Sierra’s best local fishing holes. The regular monthly meeting of the Calico Quilters, 10 a.m., at the Patio Building of the Tri-County Fairground­s. CANDIDATES MEET AND GREET

Meet the candidates currently running for office in Inyo County inn the general election on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Whiskey Creek Banquet Room. This evening of casual conversati­on is a great opportunit­y to have one-on-one discussion­s about the issues at hand and a chance for the candidates to get to know the community they will be serving if elected. Cookies and water will be provided. Participan­ts are welcome to get dinner and drinks and bring them into the banquet room though there will be no servers in the banquet room for the event.
