Be careful what you wish for
Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. I don’t know if you would call that little saying an adage or a warning. What I would call it is worthy of deliberate consideration. It is only our way of life that hangs in the balance as people head to the ballot box. I remember the first time I took my driver’s test; I did not yield to a pedestrian who was entering the crosswalk. I was quickly informed by the examiner that I could return to the DMV immediately, not yielding to pedestrians is an automatic failure.
Sadly, automatic failure is how I have to classify any Republican candidate. This is because, in my opinion, anyone who can be a member of a party that has Donald Trump as its leader tells me all I need to know about that candidate. I can only assume that the candidate is just a lessor extension of the dear leader.
Additionally, I don’t like what the Republican Party stands for. As far as I can tell, corporate interests and special interests are their interests. In addition to that the Republicans seem dedicated to the eradication of Social Security, Medicare, and a woman’s right to choose. Excuse me, that a woman’s right to choose thing is already in the process of being toppled.
Getting back to the dear leader. As a political candidate, I watched Donald Trump make fun and light of an American soldier’s capture and over five years in captivity as an American POW. Then as president, I watched this man boast about having fallen in love with Kim Jong-un, the maniacal dictator of North Korea. Subsequent to this, Trump would seem to swoon every time that he mentioned him and Kim’s love letters.
Ask yourself what a mindset like that might have in mind for the future of America. Even I can do that math. And just let me point out that a dictatorship is a party of one.
Lastly, since this is such a consequential midterm election, I am hoping someone can help unmask the ambiguity that surrounds the Republican slogan, MAGA (Make America Great Again). This is obviously harkening back to a different time, I would like to know what time is being referred to. For example, Make America 1997 Again. This would help inform greater political clarity.
