Ongoing OPERATION GREEN LIGHT

In advance of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday, the Inyo County Board of Supervisor­s announced that county buildings would be illuminate­d green Nov. 7-13 as part of Operation Green Light to support military veterans. Residents and businesses can participat­e by simply changing one light bulb in their house or business to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversati­on with friends.

ADOPT A SHELTER DOG

Give a dog a reason to be thankful – adopt a shelter dog for $10.* The fee is for the entire month of November.

*Fees include spay/neuter and first set of shots

NIH GIFT SHOP

The Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, in the lobby of the hospital, is now open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. The shop carries a wonderful selection of baby clothes and accessorie­s, unique gifts and is the only place in town that sells See’s Candy. The shop accepts credit cards.

FRIENDS OF THE INYO

Friends of the Inyo’s summer calendar of free outdoor educationa­l and volunteeri­ng events throughout Mono and Inyo counties is up on the Events tab of its website, friendsoft­heinyo. org/events, and is full of offerings to the public that include interpreti­ve hikes, half-day volunteer cleanup events and multi-day backcountr­y stewardshi­p events, nature-based yoga, and desert campouts. Most events have a limit of attendees to keep group sizes manageable and ensure a quality experience in nature while respecting habitat, therefore, early signup is encouraged.

WILDLIFE PROGRAMS OUTDOORS

Wildcare Eastern Sierra offers free outdoor education programs in its yard when weather allows. Hawks, raven, snakes, birds, reptiles; nests, feathers, bones, rocks, shells, more. Families, small groups, clubs: call the center at (760) 872-1487 to schedule date.

Saturday, Nov. 5 HOLIDAY BAZAAR

The Bishop United Methodist Women’s Annual Holiday Bazaar will be from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Center building at the Bishop First United Methodist Church, 205 N Fowler Street. The bazaar will feature a variety of tasty baked treats, free coffee, and many hand-crafted and one-of-a-kind items, including fall and winter home décor, as well as upcycled items, gifts, hand-knit and hand-crochet hats and scarves, baby items, and much more. For children, supervised crafts with a snack will be available for $2 per child, while their adult shoppers enjoy the bazaar.

CRAFT FAIR AT CALVARY BAPTIST

The Calvary Baptist Church, 1100 W. Line St., will have a craft fair from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. that will feature soaps, spices, jewelry, honey, Uganda aprons and purses, fine art, homemade crafts, sweet treats and more. There will be a cookie walk with proceeds to benefit the youth mission trip in Arizona next year.

BAND HOLIDAY MARKET

The Bishop Union High School marching band will have a holiday market and craft fair from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the high school parking lot, 301 N. Fowler, Bishop, featuring local vendors, antiques, food, music and drawings. Funds raised from this event will be used for the band to attend competitio­n, new music, uniforms and equipment for this year’s new BUHS marching band. COUNTY HOSPITAL/FARM BURIAL SITE DEDICATION

The Big Pine Cemetery District invites the public to the dedication of the Inyo County Hospital and Farm Burial Site at 11 a.m. at the Crocker Cemetery (600 Crocker Avenue).

Sunday, Nov. 6 BP FIRE DEPARTMENT BREAKFAST

The Big Pine Fire Department is hosting a home-town community breakfast from 7 - 11 a.m. at the Big Pine Fire Station located at 181 N. Main St. Tickets are $12 for adults or $8 for children and seniors. The menu includes eggs, hash-browns, bacon, and all-you-can-eat pancakes. Beverages will include coffee, juice, milk and iced tea. Any proceeds from the event will go towards the department’s equipment fund but the event is not specifical­ly a fundraiser.

FELICI PIANO TRIO

The Felici Piano Trio and guest Aaron Hill, oboe/saxophone, perform chamber music works by Mozart, Schubert, Martinu and Steven Banks (his uplifting “Come as You Are” for sax and piano) at 4 p.m. at Cerro Coso College, Bishop. Monday, Nov. 7 SIERRA HIGHLANDS CSD

COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISOR­S

The Inyo County Board of Supervisor­s meets in regular session at 10 a.m. with the agenda available at the county website, www.inyocounty.us. The meeting will be held in the Board Chambers at the County Administra­tive Center in Independen­ce, 224 N. BISHOP LIONS CLUB

The Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary meet every Wednesday at the Hospital Annex 2759 Birch Street (enter at the Grandview Street Entrance) at 10 a.m. The second Wednesday of the month is a General Meeting. Other Wednesdays are devoted to making crafts for the annual Holiday Boutique. All friends are welcome to join a wonderful volunteer organizati­on who’s funds purchase life saving equipment for the hospital. Friday, Nov. 11 VETERANS DAY IN BISHOP

The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary Post118 with the local VFW will begin posting U.S. flags on Main Street and Line Street at 8 a.m. Volunteers are always welcome. There will be a memorial ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Pioneer Commentary on West Line Street. The public is invited to attend.

VETERANS DAY IN BIG PINE

The Big Pine American Legion Auxiliary Glacier Unit 457 will be hosting a community Veterans Day service at 11 a.m. at the Big Pine Veterans Memorial on the corner of U.S. Highway 395 and 168. If you would like to help distribute flags on the headstones of veterans, meet at Crocker Cemetery, 600 West Crocker St., at 8:30 a.m. then onto Woodsman Cemetery.

FALL HIGHBALL CRAGGIN’ CLASSIC

Saturday, Nov. 12 COSO MONTHLY BIRD WALK

The COSO bird walk is an easy walk around the Bishop Paiute Tribe’s Conservati­on Open Space Area behind the U.S. Forest Service/BLM offices, 351 Pacu Lane, Bishop, starting at 8:30 a.m.

EASTERN SIERRA BOWMEN
