Ongoing OPERATION GREEN LIGHT
In advance of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday, the Inyo County Board of Supervisors announced that county buildings would be illuminated green Nov. 7-13 as part of Operation Green Light to support military veterans. Residents and businesses can participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house or business to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends.

The Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, in the lobby of the hospital, is now open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. The shop carries a wonderful selection of baby clothes and accessories, unique gifts and is the only place in town that sells See’s Candy. The shop accepts credit cards.
FRIENDS OF THE INYO
Friends of the Inyo’s summer calendar of free outdoor educational and volunteering events throughout Mono and Inyo counties is up on the Events tab of its website, friendsoftheinyo.org/events, and is full of offerings to the public that include interpretive hikes, half-day volunteer cleanup events and multi-day backcountry stewardship events, nature-based yoga, and desert campouts. Most events have a limit of attendees to keep group sizes manageable and ensure a quality experience in nature while respecting habitat, therefore, early signup is encouraged.

The Big Pine American Legion Auxiliary Unit 457 will host the Big Pine School Veterans Assembly from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The auxiliary will have a business meeting starting at noon in the auxiliary room.

Friday, Nov. 11 VETERANS DAY IN BISHOP
The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary Post118 with the local VFW will begin posting U.S. flags for Veterans Day on Main Street and Line Street at 8 a.m. Volunteers are always welcome. There will be a memorial ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Pioneer Commentary on West Line Street. The public is invited to attend. A special ceremony for renaming the VFW the Col. Robert F. Waggoner VFW Post 8988 will be at the Post, 484 Short St., at 4 p.m. Dinner will be served after ceremony; free for veterans.
VETERANS DAY IN BIG PINE
The Big Pine American Legion Auxiliary Glacier Unit 457 will be hosting a community Veterans Day service at 11 a.m. at the Big Pine Veterans Memorial on the corner of U.S. Highway 395 and 168. If you would like to help distribute flags on the headstones of veterans, meet at Crocker Cemetery, 600 West Crocker St., at 8:30 a.m. then onto Woodsman Cemetery.
VETERANS DAY IN LONE PINE
The Comrades of Lone Pine VFW Post No. 8036 will have a Veterans Day service at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Whitney Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the Post following the service, 481 S. Main St.
FALL HIGHBALL CRAGGIN’ CLASSIC

Monday, Nov. 14 PUMPKIN PIE CONTEST
The Big Pine Civic Club will hold its annual pumpkin pie contest on starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Big Pine Town Hall before the regular Civic Club meeting. Come and enjoy our local chefs battle it out for the title of best baker; first place $30; second place $15, third place $10. Items on the agenda for the Civic Club: annual Christmas Tree lighting, Citizen of the Year committee, discussion of a New Year’s Eve dance, nomination for 2023 Civic Club officers, presentation from Smoking Cessation and reports from Inyo County representatives.
