Big Pine American Legion Auxiliary grateful for Veterans Day support

The Big Pine American Legion Auxiliary Unit 457 would like to take this time to thank all veterans for their service to our country. Big Pine had a very special Veterans Day Community Service. We would like to recognitio­n the following people and groups who gave of their time to make this year’s ceremony a chance to truly remember and thank our veterans.

We thank the Big Pine Civic Club for placing the street flags and the huge flags at the Veterans Memorial; Big Pine Cemetery District for working with the Auxiliary to distribute flags on military headstones; Big Pine volunteer Fire Department who helped setup chairs and popup tents; the Big Pine School District for the sound system; Martin Woollard Sr. for being the master of ceremony; buglers Stan Smith, Dan Daugherty, Ryan Forbis for opening, closing, and armed services medley; Pastor Kate Hunter of the Methodist Church for the invocation and benedictio­n; the High Sierra Chorus for their outstandin­g rendition of the National Anthem and God Bless America; Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Robert “Bob” Thomas for the history of Veterans Day; Big Pine High School students Cherish Dixon, Nathanial Vance, William Mairs for their “Lest We Forget” for their superb recitation of Lance Corporal Begay, Alleta Sullivan, and Lieutenant Colonel Robert Wolverton biographie­s; the Girl Scout Troop leaders did a tremendous job – Daisy Troop 56 sang “You’re A Grand Old Flag,” Junior Troop 641 and Brownie Troop 524 sang “America” then the girls passed out thank you cards to our veterans; and Inyo County District 4 Supervisor Jennifer Roeser read the Inyo County Veterans’ Day proclamati­on. The Big Pine community did a fantastic job working together to acknowledg­e and honor our local veterans.
