With winter’s arrival, here’s how to find places to play in the snow

Mammoth, Mono County in full winter operations

With almost seven feet of new snow on top of Mammoth Mountain and a solid base of about four feet, Mammoth is now officially in full on winter operations.

Most recreation roads are now covered in snow, allowing for snowshoein­g and cross country skiing and the town of Mammoth’s Trail System is now in winter operations.

Here is a recent update on the latest on winter recreation options and informatio­n:

• Mammoth Ice Rink: Opening Day and FREE Skate Night is Friday, Nov. 25. The Mammoth Ice Rink is owned and operated by the town of Mammoth Lakes through a partnershi­p with the Mammoth Unified School District and Mono County

Office of Education. The town of Mammoth Lakes is committed to providing the most enjoyable outdoor ice-skating experience possible. Weather permitting, the Mammoth Ice

• Mammoth

Mountain: With 4-6 feet of snow last week, Mammoth Mountain was able to expand the terrain for Veterans Day weekend. Broadway (1), Stump Alley (2), Face Lift (3), Unbound (6), Discovery (11) are all open for the season.

Friday, Panorama Gondola to the Summit, Rollercoas­ter (4) and Chair 21 are open for the season. Mammoth will continue to expand terrain as conditions allow. Go to https://www.mammothmou­ntain.com for more informatio­n.

Mountain: Scheduled opening day is Saturday, Dec.

• Tamarack

XC: Tamarack CrossCount­ry Ski Center is scheduled to open on Saturday, Nov. 19, weather and conditions permitting. Kick your winter up a notch and get in great shape this season. Explore the Mammoth Lakes Basin on cross-country skis or snowshoes for some scenic family adventures or butt-kicking fun across 19+ miles (30+ kilometers) of secluded, groomed world-class trails. Rentals, lessons, guided tours and season passes are available from the Tamarack Cross-Country Ski Center, located at Tamarack Lodge.

• Town of Mammoth Nordic Trails: Crews are out packing the 2.9 mile Shady Rest Nordic Trails and 1.2 mile Sherwins Winter

Remember, there is no parking on town of Mammoth Lakes roads from Nov. 1 – Apr. 30 due to snow removal danger. Paid overnight parking is available.

“The Mammoth Lakes Police Department is reminding citizens and visitors that from Nov. 1 through April 30, no parking is allowed along all town streets unless otherwise noted,” according to the department. “Vehicles found parked in violation of these ordinances are subject to receiving a parking citation and/or in some cases, vehicles may be impounded at the owner’s expense,” they said.

Overnight parking:

Paid overnight parking is available throughout the winter at the following locations: Mammoth Mountain RV Park, at the Berner Street parking lot near The Village at Mammoth, and the Mammoth Yosemite Airport.
