Spiritual normalcy

- By Rev. Dr. Walt Sharer

The answer posed with the title of this article is everything, providing you are searching for the success formula of the universe. With love, everything from the health of the body to the balance of nature, functions as it is meant to be. Without love chaos rules and destroys what could have been on earth as it is in heaven. My teacher has said that there are only two ways to deal with life and that is either loving or hating, and she didn’t give any leeway in between. Many of our congregation had problems with that because they didn’t think having a preference to one person or thing over the other constituted loving or hating, and they were right, but only to a degree. Preference does not rise to the love/ hate level unless the emotions are involved. It is some what like you might observe at a political rally. The rhetoric is love for one guy and hate for the other.

I can’t speak for the past but there seems to be more division than I seem to remember. It is not just politics but it seems to pervade all elements of society, and it is not healthy for anyone. People have been made in the image and after the likeness of God. We know that God is Love, so we already have that within us all. It is time that each of us recognize that love is in all, overall, and available to all. I may not like what some say or do but I am glad they can do it, even though I choose another way. We must remember that love like God is personal to you.

Have you ever gone to the store to purchase a greeting card to express your love to a child, or mother, or father or anyone? Sure, you have. You can spend copious amounts of time reading all the cards to get the right words or sentiments. You want the card to convey love, but not too much and not to flowery, or maybe you want it mushy. I must admit I don’t think I have ever been completely satisfied with my selections. It probably would have been better if I just wrote the words, “I love you” and been done with it.

For the health of our world, our nation, our community, and our body, we must activate the primary motivator of the Universe and that is love. Avoid the discourse. My mother once said, “If you can’t say something good about a person, say nothing at all.” I believe that is a good rule to have.

Say to yourself,

“Love is guiding and directing my life. I do not look for what is wrong, I behold the right. I love the Godself within everybody. My personal opinion does not diminish my love. I am a child of love and see love in all others. Love enriches my being and hate tears it down. I choose love.”

God is Love and Loving me right now!
