Ongoing CANDY FOR THE HOLIDAYS

The Bishop Senior Center Recreation Committee will be selling See’s Candy and homemade peanut brittle beginning Monday, Nov. 2, until all sold. Come by the Bishop Senior Center, 682 Spruce Street, Monday through Friday, between 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. to shop for See’s assorted chocolates, dark chocolates, milk chocolates, and/or nuts and chews; and peanut brittle made at the Senior Center. Cash or checks accepted (sorry, no credit cards). All proceeds go towards program/activities at the Bishop Senior Center.

OWENS VALLEY LITTLE LEAGUE

Owens Valley Little League is hosting elections for the upcoming 2023 season and encourages all parents and guardians of little league players to volunteer and run for a position. Owens Valley Little League is open to families in Big Pine, Independen­ce, Lone Pine, Olancha and Keeler. The elections will be held at the Rose Garden Café in Independen­ce on Monday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. If you’re interested in running for a position, contact Mandy Kemp by Friday, Dec. 9. The elected positions available are: president, vice president, secretary, treasure, concession coordinato­r, uniform representa­tive, fundraiser committee (2 members) and team parent. NIH GIFT SHOP

The Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, in the lobby of the hospital, is now open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. The shop carries a wonderful selection of baby clothes and accessorie­s, unique gifts and is the only place in town that sells See’s Candy. The shop accepts credit cards.

FRIENDS OF THE INYO

Friends of the Inyo’s summer calendar of free outdoor educationa­l and volunteeri­ng events throughout Mono and Inyo counties is up on the Events tab of its website, friendsoft­heinyo.org/ events, and is full of offerings to the public that include interpreti­ve hikes, half-day volunteer cleanup events and multi-day backcountr­y stewardshi­p events, nature-based yoga, and desert campouts. Most events have a limit of attendees to keep group sizes manageable and ensure a quality experience in nature while respecting habitat, therefore, early signup is encouraged.

WILDLIFE PROGRAMS OUTDOORS

Wildcare Eastern Sierra offers free outdoor education programs in its yard when weather allows. Hawks, raven, snakes, birds, reptiles; nests, feathers, bones, rocks, shells, more. Families, small groups, clubs: call the center at (760) 872-1487 to schedule date.

Thursday, Dec. 1 LIGHT UP A LIFE CEREMONY

The Light Up A Life Hospice Tree Lighting Ceremony will be from 5:30 6:30 p.m. at Pioneer Home Health Care, 363 Academy Ave., Bishop. Friends and loved ones are honored, remembered or memorializ­ed. Light refreshmen­ts will be served following the tree lighting. Everyone is welcome. Your gift of $10 will light a bulb in their honor while supporting the good works of hospice care. Friday, Dec. 2 WHOBILITAT­ION AT TWIN THEATRE

The Bishop Twin Theatre will be hosting Whobilitat­ion that will feature the movie “The Grinch,” which will start at 7 p.m.; $2 admission. There will be a costume raffle in which the winner will receive gift certificat­es to Amigos Restaurant, the Back Alley, the Bishop Twin Theatre and a board game with goodies. There will also be a fudge contest with entries due in by 6:15 p.m. Winners will be announced before the movie.

Saturday, Dec. 3 ST. NICK’S MARKET CHRISTMAS CRAFT

St. Nick’s Christmas Craft Market will be from 8 a.m.. - 3 p.m. at the Heritage Arts Building, Tri-County Fairground­s.

ALTRUSA ART SALE

The Altrusa Art Sale will be at C5 Studios, 210 S. Warren St., Bishop, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. The featured artist is Nora Akino. Altrusa is a civic organizati­on that has many community-oriented projects including promoting literacy throughout the region.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church is having its annual Christmas Craft Fair from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the church parish hall, 849 N. Home St. There will be new vendors participat­ing with a wide variety of handcrafte­d items. There will be a raffle and silent auction with items donated by local merchants and the crafters themselves. Lunch will be available.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR

There will be a Christmas Bazaar from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Bishop Tribal Elders Building, 350 Barlow Lane, Bishop. The event will feature Native American arts and crafts, Indian taco sale and homemade baked goods. Vendor table, $30. CHRISTMAS PARADE IN BISHOP

The Christmas parade in Bishop, which is organized by the Bishop Chamber of Commerce and Informatio­n Center, is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. and this year’s theme is “Christmas Movies.” Parade entry forms are now available and due by Nov. 23. Just before the parade, Bishop Rotary Clubs will host the annual Santa Mile Fun Run and immediatel­y after the parade, there will be a tree lighting ceremony in front of the Bishop City Park.

The Eastside Guesthouse and Bivy, 777 N. Main St., Bishop, will be hosting a Christmas Mart from 5 - 8 p.m. following the Christmas parade with hot mulled wine, hot chocolate, Pino Pies, tasty treats and handmade items for sale.

AVALANCHE CENTER FUNDRAISER

BP CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING

The Big Pine Civic Club and Big Pine Volunteer Fire Department are teaming up once again this year to bring the Big Pine community Christmas tree lighting starting at 5 p.m. at the corner of highways 395 and 168 in the Big Pine Kiosk. Special guest appearance by Santa Claus and singing by the High Sierra Chorus. The Big Pine Fire Department will be helping Santa with the children’s stockings and the Civic Club will provide the refreshmen­ts.

Monday, Dec. 5 EASTERN SIERRA PRIDE MEETUP

Eastern Sierra Pride is scheduled to have a meetup from 6 - 9 p..m. at Mountain Rambler Brewery, 186 S. Main Street, Bishop. Eastern Sierra Pride hosts a friendly meetup for LGBTQIA2SP+ members of the Eastern Sierra to connect, share resources, and be together in safe, welcoming spaces. The Inyo County Board of Supervisor­s meets in regular session at 10 a.m. with the agenda available at the county website, www.inyocounty. us. The meeting will be held in the Board Chambers at the County Administra­tive Center in Independen­ce, 224 N. Wednesday, Dec. 7 NIH AUXILIARY

The Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary meet every Wednesday at the Hospital Annex 2759 Birch Street (enter at the Grandview Street Entrance) at 10 a.m. The second Wednesday of the month is a General Meeting. Other Wednesdays are devoted to making crafts for the annual Holiday Boutique. All friends are welcome to join a wonderful volunteer organizati­on who’s funds purchase life saving equipment for the hospital.
