The power of prayer, part 2

- By Vicar Tim Homan

(Editor’s note: This is the second part of twopart column. The first part was published in the Feb. 4 edition regarding steps in prayer. )

Thanksgiving to God is the next step in the A.C.T.S. prayer. Thanking him for all the daily blessings he pours out on us. Food, air, water, heat, a home, our cars, lights, His breathed word the Bible, waking up, money, career, love, children, seasonable weather, are all daily bread to be thankful to have received. He gives us everything we need even when we do not pray. That is how much God loves us. You should thank Him for everything you have, everything you have lost, everything because it came from Him.

Supplication is the last step in prayer. I am amazed that as God’s people we are able to ask Him or make humble requests of Him. God who created this amazing planet answers our requests. This is the time to ask God for what you need. Healing, change, help, growth, strength, forgiveness, patience, time are just a few topics that may come to mind at this time.

We do not always remember to pray and some of you are unable to pray. Our perfect Savior and perfect advocate forgive us our sins. His sinless life is for you, He shed His blood on Calvary cross to wash away your sin. He prayed for you on the cross forgive them they know not what they do. He lives and reigns to all eternity because he is risen from the dead. Take the time to pray every day, pray without ceasing like Peter the barber. Prayers are needed much more than any haircut. Pray before and after every meal. Pray to start and end your day. Pray the Apostles Creed or The Lord’s Prayer. Open your heart and mind to communicating with God and you will find Him communicating with you. Prayer is a healthy way to strengthen your relationship with God, so is baptism and communion. God prays for you every day. God so loved you that He sent His Son to die for you on the cross. Enjoy the love and mercy of God which is there for you even when you do not pray.
