County Elections Office gears up for primary
Clerk/Registrar provides insight on upcoming vote
Inyo County Clerk/ Recorder/Registrar of Voters Danielle M. Sexton reported that her office is getting ready for the primary election in Mach and offered information voters should keep in mind.
Sexton noted that presidential primary elections are unique from other elections in that voters only receive presidential candidates for their own registered party on their ballot. If a voter is not registered as one of the qualified political parties, they are referred to as “No
Party Preference” (NPP) voter. NPP voters have an option for a crossover ballot or to re-register to have presidential candidates on their ballot. The following parties allow a NPP voter to vote in their 2024 presidential primary.
American Independent Party
Democratic Party Libertarian Party
Sexton stated her office mailed postcards last month to all NPPregistered
voters requesting their options so her office can send them their preferred ballot.
Voters who are NPP registered and want to vote for a presidential candidate can contact
Sexton’s office to obtain a crossover ballot preference of one of the three options above, or re-register online to change a party preference to any political party a voter would like for his or her ballot.
If you are registered with a qualified party, but want to change parties, you must re-register, Sexton stated.
