LA water district to partner with town over three years
The Town of Mammoth Lakes has announced that the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power will be a major sponsor of the recently opened Community Recreation Center.
More than 800 people celebrated the CRC’s official opening at Mammoth Creek Park on Nov. 24.
The CRC is a 40,000 square foot Sprung Performance Arena, which includes the LA Kings Ice at Mammoth Lakes skating rink.
The Olympic rink welcomed more than 30,000 visitors during its inaugural winter season, and during the summer months, it will be transformed into the Mammoth RecZone, a 20,000 square foot, three court gymnasium.
The RecZone will serve as the hub for the expanding the town’s Parks and Recreation Department’s summer camps and programs, as well as offer a variety of sports, including basketball, volleyball, pickleball, badminton, indoor soccer and futsal, among others.
The LADWP is the third organization to become a major sponsor for the CRC, along with

tive programs and activities that promote “healthy and active” lifestyles for all ages.
As part of the sponsorship agreement, LADWP will present the town’s Water Safety Month, Swim Lessons at the Whitmore Pool, and the popular Mammoth Parks and Recreation Summer
Nature Camp for the next three years.
LADWP manages several facilities in the Eastern Sierra that operate the Los Angeles Aqueduct and provide power to nearly 6,000 electric customers in the region.
The agency has supported more than 100 in Inyo and Mono counties each year.
“LADWP is excited to foster support for environmental stewardship, recreational opportunities, and community programs to residents and visitors of Mammoth Lakes, and the sponsorship of the new Community Recreation Center was a great fit for LADWP in the Eastern Sierra,” LA Aqueduct Manager Adam Perez said. “We are not only committed to supporting the sustainability of the facility but want to support and grow recreational programs for local youth throughout the Eastern Sierra.”
Sponsorship funds will increase the parks and recreation department’s ability to maintain and sustain the CRC’s operations and provide enhanced levels of service beyond the core levels funded from the general fund, the town said.
“This partnership with the LADWP reflects the town’s commitment to deliver world-class recreation amenities for both residents and visitors by strategically partnering with organizations that share our passion for recreation,” Parks and Recreation Director Stuart Brown said. “We are thrilled to welcome LADWP as a major sponsor of the CRC and know their commitment to preserving the environment, desire to engage with the community and proven ability to elevate recreation will have a lasting and positive effect on the community of Mammoth Lakes.”
The Mammoth RecZone is scheduled to open to the public on Saturday, May 18.
