Must-Haves for New iPhone Owners

Hey, you—you with the sleek, shiny new iPhone! Congrats on finally taking the plunge! Now you can join in with the rest of us smartphone plebeians as we whittle away our days playing Candy Crush and Geometry Dash in no time. But for now (because, clearly, the best way to celebrate a shopping spree is with another shopping spree), I’ve rounded up some necessary accessories and gear for the new iPhone owner.

1. The Perfect Case

I know you’re new to this iPhone thing, so let me just say up front that you’re going to be spending tons of time on this device, so you’d better like looking at it. Admittedly, I can get a little bit weird about phone cases. They’re like clothes! For your phone! But they play an important role in how other people perceive you, and even how you feel during the day. ADOPTED is one of my favorite case companies right now; in fact, along with several of my stylish magazine editor friends in Manhattan, I can be sighted strutting around the concrete jungle with my phone ensconced in the brand’s sophisticated Leather Wrap Case ($39.95). They’re perfectly androgynous, and such a steal for the price.

I’m not trying to knock oversized headphones, but a pair of fit-in-your-pocket earbuds with excellent audio is a must. For high sound quality at a reasonable price, I recommend Velodyne’s vPulse In-Ear Headphones ($99). They’re basically the butt-flattering jeans of the headphones world: they’re comfortable, they can be worn anywhere worth going, and, frankly, they’re sexy as hell.

If you’re willing to spend a little more, you can do no wrong with the Bose SIE2i Sport Headphones ($149.95). Available in four punchy color combos, these headphones are snug and durable, and deliver excellent sound quality. Plus, they really live up to their name in sportiness—wearing them makes me feel like I’ve worked out without actually having to move from my couch. This may or may not be a good thing.
