JOSEPH R. DRISCOLL
JOSEPH R. Driscoll is senior vice president and general counsel for South Shore Health System in Weymouth, Massachusetts. He is responsible for all legal, regulatory and compliance matters for South Shore Hospital and seven subsidiary corporations of the system.
A member of the senior leadership team, Driscoll advises on all matters pertaining to mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, litigation, finance, audit and risk management.
Driscoll previously was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives as the state representative for the 5th Norfolk District comprised of the towns of Braintree, Randolph and Holbrook. He served four terms. As a member of the Legislature, Driscoll was an active member of the Irish American Caucus.
Much of the focus of his policy advocacy was towards health care initiatives, and he was a key member of the Joint Committee on Financial Services from which emerged the 2006 Health Care Reform Law designed to provide near-universal coverage for residents of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Driscoll received the Pillar of Justice Award from the Boston Bar Association for his role in preserving legal aid for low income residents of Massachusetts, and the Legislator of the Year recognition in 2009 from the Massachusetts Coalition of Police.
Driscoll earned a BA from Boston College, a JD from New England School of Law and a master’s in public administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Married with two sons, Driscoll’s Irish ancestry goes four generations back to Baltimore, Co. Cork. His mother, a Sullivan, traces her ancestry to Skibbereen, Co. Cork.
A member of the Irish Cultural Center of New England, Driscoll also actively supports the Irish American Partnership. He has been a frequent traveler to Ireland, including studying in Dublin as an undergraduate while at Boston College.
