BACK TO SCHOOL

Upside Down Magic is the latest must-watch DCOM! Based on a book series of the same name, the movie follows Nory Boxwood Horace (Izabela Rose) and her best friend Reina Carvajal (Siena Agudong). But these two aren’t your average BFFs — Nory has the ability to turn into animals and Reina can manipulate flames! When the pair enters the Sage Academy for Magical Studies, adventures begin! “The location where we were filming at was absolutely magical and breathtaking,” Siena tells J-14. “Of course, as you will see, we had to drag our suitcases through the woods which got very chaotic!”

MAGICAL MISFITS

Not all of the students have mastered their magic! “UDMs are sort of the ‘outcasts’ at Sage,” Max Torina (Andres) explains. “They’re labeled as different because of the way their magic works … or rather, the way it doesn’t.”

FLYING SOLO

“Even though Reina landed a rightful spot in her Honors Flare class, she feels so alone because she isn’t surrounded by kind and supportive people like Nory,” Siena spills. “She is very successful in the class but the pressure around her is very competitive and harsh.”

SWITCHING LOCATIONS

“It was nice to be out in the wild rather than in the city on a stage, so it was slightly new experience for me!" Alison Fernandez (Pepper) says. "The scenic drives to and from the sets were wicked!"

BECOMING BESTIES

The cast got really close while filming! “We all have each other’s phone numbers and we text every once in a while,” Alison says. “We even got together a few times when we weren’t filming just to go sightseeing. We make a great team on and off set!”

FELINE FRIENDS

Nory’s magic doesn’t always go as planned … like when she turns into a “Dritten” — a half-cat, half-dragon. “They were the most adorable kittens I have ever met,” Izabela says of her furry castmates. “The funniest part was that sometimes they looked into the camera when they weren’t supposed to. They loved getting treats from all of us on set!”
