If there’s one word we’d use to describe Camila Cabello, it’s “real.” From her early days in Fifth Harmony, to today, as a Grammy-nominated superstar, she’s always spoken from her heart. It’s one of the reasons why she has become such a trusted source of inspiratio­n and advice; almost like a big sister you can count on to be open and honest, whenever you need her.

If you’ve been a Camila fan for a while, you probably already know how open she is about her struggles with anxiety. And, with everything we’ve faced in the past year, her anxiety has kicked into high gear. It has made it hard for her to figure out how to connect with her fans — something that she’s always been so good at. But, rather than hiding away, she decided to open up about what she’s going through, in the hope that she can help anyone who may be feeling the same way! “Something that has helped me is [rememberin­g] that anxiety is focusing on the things that are out of our control and, as human beings, there are so many things that are out of our control,” she says.

Camila knows all too well that anxiety over even the smallest thing can get pretty overwhelmi­ng. Fortunatel­y, she has figured out a way to cope that really works for her. “Lately, when I’m scared or overwhelme­d, I write down the things I can’t control,” she explains. “[The] things I can’t control: The future, the future of the pandemic, other people’s behavior, whether other people are kind or honest or not, the past [and] how others treat me or other people.”

Looking at that list is scary, but that’s why Camila also writes down all of things she can control. “When I get hit with that fear, I remember I can control how I respond,” she explains. “I can control how I show up in the world today, whether it’s in my home, on my social media [or] when I go to work. I can control if I give love today and if I’m kind today.”

Focusing on the positive things you can control is a great form of self-care that Camila hopes you’ll consider following. “It has really helped me and I hope it helps you guys,” she shares. “I’m sending you all my love and healing and compassion. I’m with you.” That’s exactly what we needed to hear, Camila!
