Instead of a normal birthday party, this girl from my school, Cheri, had a Zoom party. We’re new friends, so I was honestly kind of flattered that she invited me to be a part of it. It was cool to get to catch up with so many of my classmates. Cheri set up games for us to play virtually and I felt like I was actually becoming better friends with a few of them. Things were beginning to wind down when my mom burst into my room with a bucket of laundry and said, “Gabriella, do you need me to wash blankie? I’m about to throw in a load.” You could have heard a pin drop in the video chat after that, until someone started cracking up and asked, “You still sleep with a blankie?” I was so mortified, I just slammed the laptop shut!
