My family always me to compares sister! my older

-

On Saved by the Bell,

Aisha, Lexi and Jamie end up in a love triangle.

Q:

My sister is three years older than me and my parents compare the things we do. Like, she’s a better student and more involved with afterschool things. It hurts my feelings! — Sam, 14

A:

We’re sorry you’re going through this, Sam! We think the first thing you should do is bring it up to your parents ... without your sister around. Just say that you feel like you’re getting compared a lot and it hurts your feelings. Then, talk to your sister. Ask her if she has ever felt the sting of those comparisons — you never know, it may be secretly bothering her just as much! Now, the most important part is to focus on you and your own self-esteem. Maybe you are subconsciously comparing yourself to your sister, too. We suggest writing a list of all the unique things that make you amazing. When you start to feel the insecurities of those comparisons creep in, reread your list!
