GOOD FRIEND
’ Harrys Guide TO BEING A
BE YOURSELF AROUND THEM
“Real friendship is just built on vulnerability; the second you open up to someone is when you actually get to know someone,” Harry reveals. “If there was someone I was friends with and I felt like, ‘I wanna be close to them’ [I would] just
open up straightaway, and doing that has definitely caused me to become much closer with people.” When you share new pieces of yourself with a friend, they’ll do the same, and
that creates a stronger connection!
SUPPORT THEIR PASSIONS
A true friend is their bestie’s number-one fan. While Harry has a close bond with Lizzo, he’s also the first one there to hype up her career! “She’s so authentically herself and, as a fan, I
think that’s all you really want from people that you’re watching [or] listening to — for people to be themselves,” he
smiles. “It’s really powerful. She’s really inspiring.”
START TOUGH CONVERSATIONS
Most of the time that you’re with your
inner circle, it’s all about positive vibes and good
times. But friendships are also about creating
a safe space to be honest about your bad days. “It’s
not always the easiest to go in a room and say, ‘I
made a mistake and it made me feel like this, and then
I cried a bunch,’” Harry admits. “I feel pretty
lucky to have a group of friends who are guys who
would talk about their emotions and be really open.”
LISTEN UP
a strong Harry knows part of creating
that friendship is understanding
listen more than sometimes you have to
your friend you talk. He suggests giving
without the chance to speak up
around centering the conversation
with yourself. “I had an experience
to know someone where, in getting
some stuffto them better, they revealed
like, ‘Oh, that’s me that was very much
you should not normal, like I think
something,’” maybe get some help or
where it’s he shares. “It was a moment
else’s not my place to make someone
just wanting experience about me. It’s
was listening. to reassure them that I
listening. I Sometimes it’s just about
hope that’s what it did.”
ENCOURAGE INDIVIDUALITY
If you’ve been to a Harry Styles concert (or watched footage from one of his shows) you know that he creates an environment that makes everyone feel welcome. That’s because he
treats his fans like they’re his real-life besties. “I want to make people feel comfortable being whatever they want to be,” he explains. “Maybe at a show you can have a moment
of knowing that you’re not alone.”
