For the second time in three days, the Colorado Buffaloes got off to a fast start and just kept on going.

Mckinley Wright continue his fantastic star t to the season with 17 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, and 0 turnovers in a 91-49 victory over Omaha on Wednesday. The win moved CU to 4-1 on the season.

Colorado got of f to slow star ts in their first two games of the year before earning big wins in both. The Buffs fell behind 17-2 against Tennessee last week, got back within 1 point, and ultimately lost by 9. However, the Buffs have gotten off to hot starts in their past two wins against UNC and Omaha. The Buffaloes led Omaha 47-25 at halftime.

“(Starting better the past two games is because of) practice,” said Wright. “The last three or four practices, Coach has been making us get the ball out in transition and run. Even when the other team scores a basket, the goal for us is to get the ball down and look point to post as quick as possible. We just want to run, and it started in practice. Coach always tells us, we practice how we play, so I feel like our last three to four practices have been really intense and high level.”

Head coach Tad Boyle concurred with Wright’s assessment.

“I would agree with Mckinley,” he said. “We’ve got competitive practices and we don’t always go first five against second five. We’ve got a really talented, deep team. If you don’t bring it in practice, you’re going to get embarrassed. I think it star ts in practice for sure. I credit our entire team for that.”

Jabari Walker finished with 15 points, Dallas Walton chipped in 14, and D’shawn Schwar tz added 11.

Next up, the Buf fs will travel to Las Vegas for the Far West Classic this Sunday for an 8 p.m. matchup against Washington. Interestingly, the game will not be counted as a Pac-12 conference matchup, although the Huskies are the first conference opponent for CU this year. That game will air on the Pac-12 Network.
