Halloween week filled with treats and spooks at community events

Hauntingly good fun activities start Tuesday and continue through Oct. 31

There will be plenty of treats and a few spooks this week in celebratio­n of Halloween.

Oct. 26

The fun starts Tuesday, when Northeaste­rn Junior College will host its own Trick or Treat Street, presented by the Associated Student Government and Residence Life, from 6 to 8 p.m. on the second floor of Hays Student Center. For admission, they ask that you please bring a non-perishable food item or toiletry to donate to NJC’S on-campus food pantry.

Oct. 27

Sterling Regional Medcenter’s sixth annual Trunk or Treat is set for Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the south parking lot of the hospital. SRM will be collecting non-perishable Thanksgivi­ng food items to donate to the Family Resource Center.

Oct. 28

Sterling Public Library will offer its annual Halloween Costume Contest on Thursday, Oct. 28. All ages are welcome to enter. Registrati­on begins at 5:30 p.m. and closes at 6 p.m. No late entries will be accepted as

judging begins promptly at 6 p.m. Prizes will be awarded.

The library will also be showing a scary movie for teens at 5:15 p.m. Snacks and drink will be provided. You may call the library at 522-2023 for the title of the movie.

Oct. 29

The Logan County Chamber of Commerce’s annual Trick or Treat on Main Street will be Friday, Oct. 29, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in downtown Sterling. Follow the arrows and travel in one direction only.

The Broadway Shopping Center will also be welcoming trick-or-treaters at the same time. Visit the businesses before or after making your way downtown.

Oct. 30

Sterling Parks, Library and Recreation will host a free Halloween 5K Fun Run/walk on Saturday, Oct. 30, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Kiwanis Fishing Pond. There will be a candy route for children, with stops around the route for “trick or treating.”

Baseggio Pumpkin Patch, 16695 County Road 20.5, in Atwood, will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. They will offer a Trick or Trot 1 Mile on Oct. 30 starting at 9 a.m. Attraction­s are $3 for ages four and up, attraction and maze package is $10 for ages 12 and up and $6 for ages 5 and up and maze only is $8 for ages 12 and up and $4 for ages 5 and up.

Oct. 31

The Logan County Arts League will present its annual Zombie Crawl and Corn Hole Tournament on Sunday, Oct. 31, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Logan County Courthouse Square. Corn hole/scavenger crawl registrati­on is at 1 p.m., the Northeaste­rn Dance Academy will present Thriller at 1:20 p.m., cash prize corn hole tournament runs from 2 to 5:30 p.m., the scarecrow scavenger hunt is from 2 to 5 p.m. and there will be live music at 2:30 p.m. NJC Cosmetolog­y will be helping with makeup and prosthetic­s for the zombie crawl, contest judging will be at 5 p.m. and winner announceme­nts at 5:30 p.m.

Devonshire Acres will be holding a Trunk or Treat event in its front parking lot Sunday, Oct. 31 from 3 to 5 p. m. This is a community event; please bring your whole family dressed in your costumes and trick or treat from a line of decorated cars. For more informatio­n call Elicia or Amanda at 970- 5224888.

Also on Halloween Day, Sterling Recreation Center will host its own Trick or Treat Street from 4 to 7 p.m. This year, the Hocus Pocustheme­d event has been moved to Riverview Golf Course.

Frightenin­gly Spooky

If it’s a spook you’re looking for Sterling Miracle Players’ Monster House will be open Oct. 29-31, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at 326 S. Front St. Cost is $10.

You can also visit Baseggio Pumpkin Patch’s Haunted Maze Saturday, Oct. 30, from 7: 30 to 10 p. m. Cost is $ 12 ( kids under 12 must be accompanie­d by an adult).
