Way too honest

- Gary Hodgson

Afew years into writing “Under The Wire,” we decided to branch out its distribution from newspapers and magazines only. After watching another cowboy friend who was having quite a bit of success selling tapes of his music off a card table under the rodeo stands after kicking every bare back bronc rider’s butt earlier in the day, we decided Cris Ledoux just might be onto something, so Sue talked me (ok, so maybe yelled a time or two just to get my attention) into recording some of my stories on CD’S and selling them. If you are under thirty years old, you may want to ask your parents what a CD is.

Sue applied her creative genius into designing a case sporting a few pictures of me, the cover displayed me leaning on my best heading horse ever, “Tiny” and I must admit came out pretty darn professional looking. Unfortunately I never got to show them to Chris before he passed, way too soon, but I bet he would have been envious, as if he needed anymore respect of his talents with the likes of Garth Brooks following him around like a puppy.

We made a few display boxes that resembled an old wagon, sold several CD’S, all of the display boxes, gave a few as gifts and lost the rest of them, literally. Stored them somewhere safe, never to see them again, until a few weeks ago.

Among a stack of old CD’S, which included several Chris Le Doux and Garth Brooks outputs, was a single, good as new, CD complete with the picture of Tiny and me. Sadly, Tiny has been gone for many years, as is the skinny guy leaning on him. A total ransack of my office resulted in finding a dozen of so more copies of our one-time venture titled, by the way, “Ever Seen a Cow… Boy?”

I haven’t listened to one yet and not sure anyone else would want to but that’s ok, since some legal issues could erupt if we were to distribute these. What law would we break? “Truth in Advertising.” Once the buyer sees my picture on the CD and compares it to the one on this column heading, I’m going to jail! The years have been, not cruel, but way too honest!
