Round Robin determines top showmen
Wagner, Sexton repeat as intermediate and junior showmen, Donnelson senior
When it comes to overall livestock showmanship Dylan Wager and Laramie Sexton can’t be beat. The two claimed the champion intermediate and junior showmanship titles for the second year in a row at this year’s Logan County Fair Round Robin Contest, while senior champion Siena Donnelson was a first time winner.
After proving their skills with their own species, the grand champion and reserve champion winners in the junior (ages 8-10), intermediate (ages 11-13) and senior (ages 14-19) beef, swine, sheep, goat and horse showmanship contests came together Friday to compete to determine who has the best overall showmanship skills.
Competitors started by showing their own animal and then moved around the ring to show each of the other species. As the judges scored competitors they paid close attention to the appearance of the showman, as well as control of the animal by the exhibitor and poise, neatness and coolness of the exhibitor.
“We’ve got some amazing young people that are out there showing,” said round robin superintendent Mike Forster during the contest, pointing out that many of the showmen could be seen giving their competitors tips so that they could be just as successful in the round robin as they were at showing their own species.
After the competitors had shown each species and the scores were tabulated Donnelson, Wagner and Sexton came out on top and received a custom banner and blanket.
Reserve champion senior showman was Beau Carlson, reserve intermediate showman was Taylor Tribbett and reserve junior showman was Jaidyn Rose. Each received a custom sign and cup.
Third place winners who received a mouse pad were Ben
Walker, senior; Kaitlyn Miller, intermediate and Grace Abrahamson, junior.
