Logan County deputy sheriffs took a Peetz man into custody Sunday afternoon after the man allegedly had terrorized the town for several hours.

Dominic Flores, 45, was arrested without resistance at about a quarter past 5 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of North Street in Peetz. Flores was reportedly in the street waving around a firearm when deputies were called. It was also reported that the Flores had fired the gun at residents while in the street.

A statement issued by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office Monday afternoon said, “A firearm was located on the scene that was deemed to be an unloaded pellet gun, upon further inspection.”

While pellet guns and other airpropulsion weapons are not technically classified by the federal government as firearms, the larger caliber and more advanced guns can cause serious bodily harm and even death. Law enforcement is trained to treat such guns as firearms, for reasons of public and officer safety.

Sterling Emergency Communications Center was asked to complete a Reverse 911 call to the residents of Peetz, asking them to shelter in place during the incident. Social media notifications were also completed to help spread the word of the incident for the safety of the residents of Peetz. The shelter-inplace order was rescinded once Flores was arrested.

LCSO said Flores had been contacted on Friday after a disturbance; however law enforcement did not have enough probable cause to arrest him or place him into protective custody, as he was able to answer the questions asked of him.

“(W)hile angry, (Flores) was not deemed to be a threat to himself or others based on conversations with him,” the sheriff’s office said of the Friday incident.

Flores was booked into the Logan County Jail on charges of menacing, a class 5 felony; reckless endangerment, a class 2 misdemeanor; and four counts of harassment, a class 2 misdemeanor.
