Barbara Altes

Barbara Rose (Fehringer) Altes, 92, of Sterling, CO passed away Monday, September 5, 2022 in Sterling. Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 am Monday, November 28 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Father Michael Bodzioch celebrating. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Barbara was born December 9, 1929 in Peetz, CO to Angela (Zach) and Leo Fehringer. She attended Peetz Elementary School, then St. Anthony's High School. On June 19, 1950 Barbara married James Schaefer, the two were married until 1986. Seven children were born to this union. On March 11, 1989 Barbara married Vern Altes. Barbara spent many years as an Election Judge for Logan County. She enjoyed quilting, bridge club, and spending time with family and friends. She was an avid Rockies and Broncos fan, and was a devoted Catholic. Barbara is survived by son Steve (Cathy) Schaefer, son Rod (Lois) Schaefer, son Gerry (Carrie) Schaefer, daughter Jeanette (Rich) Beam, daughter Marilyn (Jim) Gerk, daughter Joan (Gary) Marin, daughter Deeann (Glenn) Ross, 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, brothers Mark Fehringer, Ed Fehringer, Leo Fehringer, and Charles Fehringer all of Idaho, sister Marcella Schumacher of Sterling, and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Leo, mother Angela, sister Coletta Roelle, and brothers Arnold Fehringer, Alvin Fehringer, and Gerald Fehringer.
