Barbara Rose (Fehringer) Altes, 92, of Sterling passed away Monday, September 5, 2022 in Sterling with her family by her side. A Rosary service will be held Sunday, November 27th at 4 pm at Tennant Funeral Home. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, November 28th at St. Anthony's

Catholic Church with Father Michael Bodzioch celebratin­g. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Barbara was born December 9, 1929 in Peetz, CO to Angela (Zach) and Leo Fehringer. She attended Peetz Elementary School, then St. Anthony's High School. On June 19, 1950 Barbara married James Schaefer, the two were married for 34 years and had seven children together. On March 11, 1989 Barbara married Vern Altes, and they were married until his passing in 2011.

Barbara cherished spending time with her family and friends, and often blessed them with her thoughtful handmade gifts and baked goods. She was a faithful woman with a servant's heart who prayed constantly and was a model of love and forgivenes­s to all around her. In addition to being a homemaker and mother, she also attended NJC and worked at Gibson's Pharmacy, Reck Agri Service and as a Logan County Election Judge. She was an avid sports fan, cheering for her grandchild­ren, the Rockies, and Broncos. She also enjoyed quilting, embroidery, and bridge club.

Barbara is survived by her children Steve (Cathy) Schaefer, Rod (Lois) Schaefer,

Jeanette (Rich) Beam, Marilyn (Jim) Gerk, Joan (Gary) Marin, Gerry (Carrie)

Schaefer, and Deeann (Glenn) Ross, step-daughters Carol (Norman) Cooper, and Sue Altes, 19 grandchild­ren, 25 great grandchild­ren, brothers Mark, Ed, Leo, and Charles Fehringer, sister Marcella Schumacher, and numerous nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents

Leo and Angela, husband Vern Altes, sister Coletta Roelle, and brothers Arnold Fehringer, Alvin Fehringer, and Gerald Fehringer.
